Oh Hello Autumn, You Beautiful Beast…

Hi guys!

So my first full length blog post is actually inspired by an article I read about transitioning your wardrobe through the seasons – and it made me think… what do I do?! So let me tell you…

I love this season as it’s all about LAYERS! You can have fun and create outfits with playful textures; adding an interesting knit over a silk shirt, a simple scarf with a leather jacket and plain tee or even throwing a tartan lumberjack shirt over a cute dress and bare legs… on those warmer days mind.

It is also the season where I mourn Summer (we tend to do that a lot in the UK as “Summer” is something we vaguely remember from our childhood…) but get just a little bit excited about those crisp mornings and the excuse to drink coffee that tastes like Christmas. But, as we are still getting some warm days it can be tricky to work out what to wear – sweating it out on the tube because you went for that cosy jumper a little too soon is never a good look.

So to help me transition through this little period I have a few go to items to help me out;

  1. The loafer

Ah the glorious loafer. Once an item only my nan would be seen in this humble shoe has quickly become my best friend for this time of year. Still open enough to allow some air flow on warmer days but sturdy enough to tackle the inevitable ‘just-stepped-off-the-bus-looking-great-and-straight-into-a-puddle’ day. It can be paired with skinnies and a tee or tights and an a-line skirt and makes me feel ‘put together’ without trying too hard.

  1. The everyday scarf

I love how a scarf can transform an outfit instantly and with there being such a fantastic affordable range on the high street you can buy a few to work on any outfit! My favourite is a good floral number – and for this season I go to moodier florals; darker shades, larger patterns and with key autumnal colours such as plum, mustard, forest green or navy. And if you get a bit too flustered on that morning commute? Just tie it to your tote for a cute accent and quick access for that tear inducing blast of air when you step outside… darn underground trickery…

  1. The leather jacket

Of course I am leaving my favourite until last! This has got to be my most worn item; thrown over some skinnies, draped over a tea dress or bundled on top of some beaten up boyfriend jeans my leather jacket really is my best friend.Β  This year the trend seems to be towards coloured leathers which are a great update but for me my trusty black can never fail. It makes me feel just the right side of bad ass, looks equally awesome thrown over Sunday’s hippie pants or Monday’s formal wear and allows me to pretend I am in a biker gang… one day…

Now, as we progress through the year I will inevitably covet even more go to items – I am already eyeing up some chunky clunky ankle boots, a pinafore dress that doesn’t make me look like someone’s lost child and a good felt hat.Β  Paired with this year’s 70s Boho trend it is probably my favourite fall (I know I know I’m British…but dammit I just love that word) to date!

What are your go to items for Autumn? Any major players I’ve missed? Leave a comment, let me know!

Now… where are those flares…

    I have found myself living in my flightsuit overalls, which is really the lazy man’s outdoor onesie. They handle the heat and the cold, and they suit my style. Me and skinny jeans, or jeans in general, have never been friendly… but jeans may be an entire blog post in themselves.

    1. Jeans can be a pain and tend to be my go to but I ALWAYS have to have a bit of stretch in them -I tried on some regular full on denim jeans the other day and I could barely breathe….or get them off… it was a bit of a Ross and the leather pants kinda moment!! So yeah – wear what works for YOU! πŸ˜€ x
